Welcome to Silencio Interior’s Website –Yoga School.

Brief Biography

Emilio J. Gómez practices Yoga since 1989 as a result of his own work in the search for the spiritual path. In 1992, his search took him to India, where he deepens into this practice in different Asrhams and Centers for Meditation.

In 1995 he begins to share his experience in Meditation through Workshops and Seminars. Activity that forms part of his own spiritual work in which he continues deepening.

He is currently teaching classes of Hatha Yoga (physical Yoga) and Raja Yoga (Mental yoga) as well as Workshops and Seminars of Meditation.

Meditation is to open a parenthesis in our daily life to feel our heart

1.   The authentic nature of human being is spiritual

Maybe this is the only thing that would be necessary to know.   Even more, it would be just as simple as to remember it.  The most essential condition of humanity is spiritual. Pure spirit inhabiting a body that perceives the world through physical senses and mind.

The human being has been so much time inhabiting the body that has forgotten his authentic nature, basically owed to two processes: Identification and Imagination. We get identified with our body imaging to be the role we represent in the daily life, assuming like own the personality that one day was born as a defense mechanism of our most intimate essence against the assaults coming from outside.

To recover and to remember that subtle contact with the essence we already are –and that never has ceased to be– is what meditation is and the principal purpose of the Classes, Seminars and Workshops of our School of Yoga.

2.   The nature of the mind

The very nature of mind is movement, action, to jump constantly from one subject to the other. Is to say: Distraction and dispersion. And nothing can be done to avoid it, but to accept it as it is. Once accepted and acknowledge, we will proceed to observe in detail all its movements up to discovering the source from where it comes.

3.   To stop the mind

Somehow we feel that should our mind stop, everything would be wonderful.  It is then when we start a non-stop war, based on concentration techniques. This will not be our goal. Our interest will be centered on the awakening of the consciousness which is previous to all mental process.

Trying to stop the mind is an effort as painful as useless But … to allow it to be quiet it is a possibility at hand.

4.   How to allow the mind to quiet down?

The secret, if any, consists in quieting the body down. If the body stops, the mind will do so. But it happens that the mind wants anything else but stopping its incessant activity.

Nevertheless, what would happen if due to a soft perseverance we continue quieting the body down?

Only when the choppy pound’s waters become calmed

it is possible to see the whole reflection of the moon.

The state of Meditation has appeared.

5.   What is meditation?

Meditation is beyond duality and the limits in which we usually move. It lacks of labels, does not understand of names nor concepts. It is a state beyond the mind, sensations, thoughts, emotions, concepts and even the body.

Meditation state has always been there, but the veil of our imagination and identification has prevented us from perceiving it.  Meditation cannot be forced.  It simply happens if we provide the suitable conditions.  And that is probably the only thing we have at hand.

Meditation is the state of being that corresponds to our authentic nature. Meditation is your real being.  Meditation is you.

6.   Meditation techniques

It is usual to allocate a name to the technique created to focus our attention. This can lead to a misunderstanding if someone hears or reads that depending which technique we use we may come to a different spiritual development. This is not true. The state of meditation is always the same, because it is the state of the essential being, our authentic and common nature.

It will not matter the technique we use.  Meditative state will not care the way we use to reach consciousness. Nevertheless, we consider of relevant importance to maintain the same technique. Changing techniques frequently would trick the mind in believing in the need of variety that personality has.

For this reason and due that our interest lies in reaching depth in the practice, we are always going to work in the same way.

7.   Adequate conditions to facilitate meditation

When we wait for a guest, we arrange, put in order and clean our house, don’t we?  That is what we are going to do when we speak about the suitable conditions to facilitate meditation.

If the adequate conditions are set and we patiently persevere, the state of meditation state will appear by itself.

It is like growing a rosebush. We cannot make that a rose blooms at our will the day and the hour we want.  But,…  if we put the right conditions……., if once planted, we fertilize it, water it  and take care of it,  no doubt that at the right time the rouse will bloom and we will enjoy its fragrance.

Setting the suitable conditions to facilitate meditation is our main goal.

8.   What to meditate for?

When a man is within his essence he certainly does not need to make any spiritual practice. It is when having been absorbed by the world that has forgotten himself, when he needs to become quiet to feel himself again.

It is possible to be silent with oneself to recapture the origin, to hear the exact point where the source of thought is born, the following breath, the next heart beating, …, and then, free of conditionings, to feel the life that oneself is.

Seating in the posture to get reconnected, is comparable to the simile of a car running 100 km/h, when suddenly the driver decides to stop.   That decision is the beginning. After that, he will look for a place and right moment (conditions). He will slow down the speed of the car and finally will stop (mind gets quiet). Then he will decide to get off the car (des-identification), only then, he will be able to contemplate the landscape with no sort of imagination. The sky will be blue or either cloudy, there will be flowers or wheat fields, …. No matter what, he will only observe.

When the “stopping” time has finished, he will return to the car and will carry on again along the motorway, but there will be a difference: now, everything is different.  Now he knows, he does not imagine the landscape because he has seen what it is like and he also knows he is not the car in which he travels.  He will, if he wants, run at the same speed as before, diminish or increase it.  He has understood what and who he is.  Comprehension is freedom’s active principle. Without comprehension there can be neither freedom nor liberation.

Man thinks freedom is somewhere else or under some circumstance external to him. He is wrong, it is inner him.  Search inside constantly till you perceive that you are not the one you have been thinking you were during your whole existence.  You are pure spirit that inhabits a body having a human experience. This is to be understood through the experience.

Climb up the ladder of meditation

above your mental clouds

and discover the sun inside you

9.   Classes, Workshops and Seminars

The Classes, Workshops and Seminars of the School of Yoga Silencio Interior are essentially practical. In them, step by step and far away from rituals and distant traditions are explained the reasons behind the practice together with all the necessary technical details for the daily accomplishment, in order to obtain the major possible benefits.

Any of these activities forms a unity by themselves. Apparently, in principle all are identical, where the only variable is the depth gained with the recurring practice.

Since our interest lies in the depth to be reached and not in promoting a potential mental dispersion that the repeated incorporation of new techniques could produced, we are not going to realize every day different practices, on the contrary, they are going to be always the same ones, with the idea of advancing in vertical towards the own center and not horizontally towards the exterior.

Our interest lies in the depth to be reached and not in promoting a potential mental dispersion produced by introducing new techniques. On the contrary, they are going to be always the same ones, with the idea of a vertical progression towards our own center and not horizontally towards the outside.

10. Practicing in silence

The practice of Yoga and Meditation is an invitation to deepen into our Inner Silence. Silence will become installed in a progressive manner. Verbal and visual Silence will lead to an invitation for internal introspection and inner exploration.

Our activities are like a laboratory where we have certain time and space and installed in the Awakening Posture we will drive ourselves to an impartial auto-observation.

11. Observance and no reaction

Here is the key. During every meditation we will allow everything that has been stored and filed away during our whole life in our subconscious to surface to the lake of our consciousness.

Everything, all that has been repressed, all that makes or has made us to go through suffering, desire, fear, anger, pleasure, etc.  But on this occasion and during the practice we will not allow them to drag us down as it used to happen before, when they showed up in the past.

This time we will only observe, not allowing for any expression to come up. We are going to observe it without reacting. We will not be getting into analyzing why is it there or why not, neither will allow those feelings of self-complacency or self-pity, show up and drag us down. Not this time. In this occasion we just need to be aware that it is there. We will pay all our attention to observing, slowy realizing that it loses more and more of its strength whenever it comes up to the surface, till it finally ends up getting diluted forever.

We are going to allow everything good and bad out there to emerge to the surface of the lake of consciousness. But again, we will not do anything else but to observe it without reacting.

This is extremely important. If the object that emerges to the conscience forces us to react and leave the posture of meditation and with it the attention and concentration, it will have dominated us again.

On the contrary, if we are capable of observing it without reaction, this object will be diluted before our pure and dispassionate observation, eradicating forever the object that used to dominate us.

This way our mind gets purified. This way we obtain willpower. This way consciousness becomes amplified. This way the person becomes free and liberated.

The person never gets liberated, it is you the one who gets liberated from the person, directly understanding   the process that moment to moment, situation to situation has shaped the personality.

12. Patience, perseverance, bravery and courage

Like everything worthy, this is nothing that happens overnight. Meditation seeks to amplify our own conscience. To achieve that it will be necessary to go through all the structural layers that conform our personality.

Needless to say we will need a very good dose of patience, perseverance, bravery and courage to bear the arising internal battles. It will not be easy, but it will be possible.

13. The pleasure of meditation

There exist a generalized idea that meditation is pleasant and wonderful. This is true, but only when connecting with the own Being, the Fountain, has been achieved.

Up to then, no doubt, there will be very pleasant and wonderful moments. But there will also be times not so pleasant and wonderful in which resistances to continue our self-knowledge will play some tricks on us.  That is why courage is necessary to carry on and strength to accept all that, breath to breath, moment to moment, beat to beat, pops up from our consciousness.

14. Meditation is not a game

Meditation is neither a game to be played no matter how fashionable it is or how well admitted in society nor an activity to be done for enjoyment.

To stop…  to allow that the meditation happens is to start a journey back to the origin. Meditation is an attempt of transcendence, of going beyond, where the first and last freedom dwells.

Meditation is the most sacred moment of the day. A moment in which everything will cease, trying to penetrate the mystery of our own selves, stroking the presence of the hidden.

15. A Serious task

After reading all these lines it becomes clear how important and serious this task is. We would like to take this opportunity to stress it. This is a serious task. Taking into consideration that seriousness is the opposite of casual, not of happiness or joy. The essence is always synonym of happiness.

This inner journey proposal is addressed to all those people who have understood the value of a quiet and silent mind.

16. The technique

We will use one basic technique: the meditation posture. Throughout it and together with a perseverant maintenance we will focus our attention to develop the necessary concentration that will give an opportunity to the state of meditation.

This is the object we have chosen to focus our mind on, but of course it could have been any other: a song, a star, a cloud… Anything is valid if used in the right way as to bring in all of its splendor the presence of the person exercising such an effort to maintain and sustain the attention on the object.

With this concentration of the person’s mind over the object, is where a crack will appear in which the consciousness of being – the state of meditation- is to be introduced.

Focusing the attention on the posture, in fact what we do is to “distract” the mind. We distract it just as the astronomers do when focusing attention on a star, they do not focus on the star directly, but on one side, because only in this way it will be possible to perceive the qualities of the star in all their splendor.

When we do not “look” in a direct way, we can “see” with full amplitude and so perceiving in a natural way our real essence.

17. The posture

The basic technique to be used is simplicity in itself.  It is to get installed in the Meditation Posture: Ardha Padmasana or Half Lotus. It will also be valid any other position in which the verticality of the spine, body stability and strength are fully guaranteed.

This posture does not belong to any particular tradition, it is by itself a whole mankind heritage.

This is a posture that allows the body to maintain an upright, firm stable and relatively comfortable position, from where to develop the necessary attention and concentration that allows us to go inland, where dwells the essence of the Being, the goal of our practice.

18. Steps to follow

The steps to follow in this inner trip will always be the same ones:

Posture. The posture is maintained over three areas. Lumbar zone, vertebral spine upright with no tension,  chin slightly titled toward the chest.

Relaxation.  It consists in keeping the body with the right tension, by relaxing all the muscles and tendons that are not necessary to keep the posture.

Breath.  Attention to breath at the same time that we continue perceiving the body like one unit.

Self-consciousness. Posture axis and goal of the technique. Any technique we use it is an arrow that has you as a target.

Immobility. Immobility is essential. When the dynamic principle stays quiet it is possible to perceive the static principle from which to take consciousness.

Details. The eyelids are closed or slightly narrowed looking at a fixed point, may be the tip of the nose, or the floor it one meter of distance.

The fingers can form a gesture (Mudra) joining index and thumb fingers.  Or, simply put the palms on the knees. The tip of the tongue touches the palate.

19. Easiness in the posture

Is the posture comfortable?  No.  Is it uncomfortable?   Neither.   So?

We should know that the meditation posture is, above all, demanding.  It demands a maximum of attention and presence. It is a corporal position in which an effort is requested to maintain alertness. It is this precisely: to remain alert, attentive, present, awake. In one word, being aware of what is perceived (the observed) and of our own self at the same time (the observer). It is pure observation without identification or imagination.  That is why the posture has been denominated “Awakening” because we must be awake to maintain it.

20. Inner Silence

The Posture of the Awakening is an ideal instrument, not the only one, to create an Inner Silence space that ends up becoming an axis from where to live our lives with balance and fullness.

21. About the Illumination

The term “illumination” tries to define a state prior to the consciousness from where all the concepts are born.  Ii is a concept that tries to express something previous to the duality. Illumination is another idea and it has to be treated as such. We have to go beyond the ideas and concepts born out of our mind.

Going beyond the idea of getting enlightened or reaching illumination. Such expectations can become a burden at the time of the inner practice. A burden that ends up becoming too expensive when trying to deepen inside to connect the Light that each of us already are. Yes, you know you are that Light.

22. Objectives

Undoubtedly, the main objective of these practices is to integrate the state of meditation in everyday’s life.

Not to get isolated by any means, quite on the contrary, it is in the outside world where we will be passing the test of whether our practices are right and correct or not.

How to know this? It is very easy. If an atmosphere of calm and cheerful serenity begins to clothe us and our relationships with others are more harmonious, then we will know that our practice is correct

At this point we are able to ensure that others will be our mirrors. The others are a reflection of ourselves. As we interact with them, so will be their response to our actions.

If we grow in Inner Silence we will also grow in harmony, balance and serenity. And that will get noticed  throughout our actions. There is no alternative. The ego and personality will be silent, handing over action and words to the essence inherent wisdom, the consciousness of Being.

Likewise, those who are around us will have no choice but to continue growing at our silent peace, because from a stillness impulse of such magnitude will always emerge a conciliatory presence inviting, without words, to meditation.

After all, potential friction with others are only battles of egos and personalities to feel alive themselves through the expression. When the light of understanding begins to emerge, its iridescent beam will reach all areas of life.

But where does the ego and personality hidden away when you come to understand its operative and thereby the ego´s mechanism of others?

Only when you understand and accept

 the lie within you,

you can then percieve and accept

 the truth within the others.

Upon the birth of such understanding, the ego ceases to demand attention and goes to stay in a humble background. His will is the will of the Being. The ego has become a steward to our service. The ego has stopped ruling our life. Now we are, the Being, the Essence who commands. And in the Being it cannot be anything else but Silence, Peace and Love.

23. Silence, Peace, Love

To begin with, the silence. This occurs naturally when the different layers of mind and personality have been passed through and comprehension of our true spiritual nature emerges.

By then, a feeling of Peace will have flooded all. At this moment harmony is evident, making us to perceive the order of Creation: Everything is fine, everything is as it should be.

We accept because we understand.

After the Peace, Love appears, a clean, pure, unconditional Love to all the Creation, knowing ourselves an integral part of it. What else do you need to know?

Wish you that Inner Silence, Peace and Love fill up you Heart.

Thank you for your interest.
